Kates from the Shokaku...



Undoubtedly wing tops of these bombers were mottled with the dark colour..







 
You know, I had always thought that Japanese model companies should be the last word on Japanese colors.
Until Tamiya made me paint a Rufe purple.
Just sayin'!
 
Shokaku Kates were painted in October 1941 during the training period leading up to the PH attack, they were coated overall with color I-3 brownish Khaki colour and then mottled over the upper surface with Dark Green, some aircraft having a squiggle like appearance while others a more dense look. The green was painted on the wings and the upper portion of the fuselage only. The White fuselage band had a narrow red pinstripe border.

The Nichimo kate artwork is in error Zuikaku Kates only carried Bombs not torpedoes, and had a dense Green only mottle on their upper surface.
