Shokaku Kates were painted in October 1941 during the training period leading up to the PH attack, they were coated overall with color I-3 brownish Khaki colour and then mottled over the upper surface with Dark Green, some aircraft having a squiggle like appearance while others a more dense look. The green was painted on the wings and the upper portion of the fuselage only. The White fuselage band had a narrow red pinstripe border.
The Nichimo kate artwork is in error Zuikaku Kates only carried Bombs not torpedoes, and had a dense Green only mottle on their upper surface.
