The ScharnHorst 1/200-Operation Paderborn

I thought I share what I have been doing for the last 6/8 months the Trumpter 1/200 Scharnhorst.I have ordered probably another $3/400 worth of aftermarket 3d parts to try to get her close but to which I have already failed.let me explain even with the fantastic book 'The Anatomy of a Ship" I overlooked the observation deck it needed a bit of mods was the sister ships Trumpter got lazy.So,instead of taking a chance and waste close to a $1000 I let it go she will still be Nice in the long run @95% let's hope. I have scraped off all the handrails and installed both PE and some I make out of .013" brass wire it's time consuming but will worth it to me.I will at this point leave you with some pics going along the way to get those interested up to date somewhat.Oh the base will be as my other build of the Kreigsmarine Paduka.

Some of the SS the mast is brass from scratch easy but will aid in rigging.

Some mods to the basically 6" guns aftermarket flakerling and ladders from overseas and I had to drill the platform and add the support.The covering/canvas to the ammo boxes is Tamy tape painted.The first flakerling is in correct though I modified the seats to kinda look correct was scrapped and the right ones ordered in they are in play with pic of gun/bags.

I am now working the aft SS/hanger deck with it's affiliated launches which were pretty much plain Jane except for a brass prop the rest is on me.I still need to touch up one launch just a little more

I've only ever built the one ship, USS Indianapolis (CA-35) with stacks of PE and brass extras. The fiddling, frustration and time can sometimes become odious, but in the long run and after several months of toil, to see the delicate ladders, antenna, railings and firepower looking and blending so naturally with the model, makes it all worth while. So well done and please keep us posted.

I am figuring another 8/12 months Andy I try to spend 1/2 hours daily.The fun part will be the rigging and their is a lot of it.I am not going to fix every single issue fix what I can and upgrade as much as possible,

I've got an unbuilt Scharnhorst as well but only 1/350th. Here are some shots of a 1/200 scale one at a local museum that might prove useful for references, though I don't know how accurate it is.

Thanks Andy the book I mentioned has about 4/5 times as much rigging is possible.The guy built a Nice representation I would say from scratch being 1997!!

The build has been going slow but steady today was a day of rain and more than usual got completed so some pics.I have on order Another set of flakerlings just to be sure the right ones are in the correct position they used different setups depending on the space available for the mount..The rear mast.....will lets just use John's words had a degree of cuss factor involved but now complete.I ordered two sets of square liferafts one from Bunker Studios and some source called Peddinghaus more like 1/350 1/2 the size of BS and 1/4 the size what came in the kit.I am going by the pics in the book and how the LR lie inside the the launch on the side and BS match the scale and number of LR.
