Had to go to Bristol this morning to run some errands for my dad and decided to stop at the old train station and see what might pass through. Low and behold a container freight being pulled by seven engines came through and one was a UP.

Went down the unmaintained section of the Virginia Creeper Trail today. This section is in North Carolina and has not been incorporated into the Hike,Bike, and Horse trail because some private land owners in NC do not want it on there property. I went as far as I could go, ran into a rock slide and quite a few trestles. All in all it was a great hike and very interesting. A couple of the trestle shots will be pan shots so they will be just a little large. Oh, and I got both sides of the rock slide to and the last shot was as far as I could go. Please enjoy.

Great shots guys, here we only get two trains a day depart from the capital and it's the same two every time, so we are somewhat train starved. This from a guy who did a lot of train spotting as a kid in the old country.

Aaron, do you know what RR was operating on this line?

Syscom, up until 1977 it was a branch of the Norfolk and Western RR. It started out as the Abingdon Coal Iron Railway in 1887 but not much construction was done until it was reorganized into the Virginia-Carolina in 1898 and in 1919 the Norfolk Western RR purchased it and used it until 1977.

Great shots Cota and Aaron both. Especially the creeper trail shots, very nice!

Over the weekend, I went up to Mt. Shasta and along the way, I stopped in at Castella where they have a resteraunt and motel made up of rolling stock. I wasn't able to get as many shots as I wanted, especially the old wooden snowplow that was on the steam locomotive that's on display there. I'll go up and try again when the weather gets a little better.

Anyway, I grabbed a couple shots of some of the Cabooses there, used as "cabins" for travellers.

I also passed through Dunsmuir and grabbed a shot of a wing plow sitting in the UP yard. I wish it was a better shot, but I was in traffic and grabbed the shot out the driver's window as I passed by.
