Does anyone know what that was underneath the wing on the Wildcat just inboard of the insignia? I haven't seen that before.

It was on the first set of photos on several of the Wildcats. Also on the Kingfisher being hoisted.

Oh... sorry I haven't noticed there was more than one page for the thread. As memo serves it's a bomb rack for small bombs.

According to a 3d drawing I have of the aircraft its a Bomb rack which was optional.

The F4F did carry bombs, that doesn't look like a bomb rack, I could be wrong though

Some thing similar if I remember right, I remember we use to drag a telephone pole through the water and the object was to get as close to it as possible and not hit it. But then again all we carried where helicopters and harriers but I only remember the harriers using the pole for practice.
