Nice of you to look in folks. Today we are still in New York and going on a gourmet trip to the Chelsea Markets down in 16th Street West. We had a tour guide who just loved what he was doing and he was a typical New Yorker with the gift of the gab. The Chelsea Markets are housed within what was once one of the buildings owned by the National Biscuit Company. The building now contains a variety of food and wine establishments, many of them unique in what they sell.
These first few pics show some of the produce at Eleni's, a cup cake and biscuit shop. I'm no great fan of cup cakes but believe me, these were out of this world, consequently on our next New York visit, this is a place you will find me, diet or no diet.
The main concourse of the food market.
Yet another example of some of the food we scoffed and scoffed is the proverbial word, for most of what we were offered was consumed before the camera could be swung into action. In truth though, if I'd stopped to take a pic or two I'd have missed out on the treats.
These early factory building were serviced by a raised railway that came as a spur from the main New York Central Railroad and was a means of getting produce in and out of the factories without congesting the heavy city traffic. Needless to say, today it is no longer used as such and so a group of folks got together and partitioned for it to be turned into a recreational facility that would benefit all New Yorkers. Today it is known as the High Line and is a walkway and recreation area well frequented by New Yorkers and tourists alike.
This one tickled my fancy, out on 15th Street West and we have a pavement no dig garden.
