I was able to help a fellow motorist yesterday, He was driving a 1957 Jaguar Mark 1 on a color tour of Maine when the brake line of the right rear wheel cylinder pulled out, threads stripped on the wheel cylinder. We were actually able to find a cap that would work in my tool bag parts stash. (I knew I didn't clean it out this summer after working on out Mark 2's Brakes for a reason! ) filled it back up with fluid, bled the remaining 3 brakes, and he was back on the road.

Felt good to help another get moving again, and we met a great couple! and got a free Lobster Dinner!View attachment 801902
I didn't take many pictures of it, but here the Jag is joined by 2 even odder cars shortly after the repairs
Interesting pic. Starts out superbly on the left and goes downhill from there.

Question about the Jag. A friend bought one that wasn't going for $100 - back in the mid 70's. Sunroof, wire wheels, altimeter etc.
Odd thing about it was that it had a V6 Jaguar engine in it but apparently that wasn't right as it should have had a straight six.

I know Jaguar made V6 engines but they were for an earlier 50's ? model from what I could find. The $100 Jag was very similar to
the one in this photo (even the colour) and never was fixed. Someone had buggered up the timing indicator for the camshaft and nobody seemed
to want to attempt to work it out. Years later I found out it could have been replaced with a Capri V6.

It was sold in the mid 90's for $1000. It would be interesting to know how the V6 ended up in it.

That's odd, I am not aware of any Jaguar V6 engines before around the 2005 Model year. So I don't know what it would have been in the 1970's. I suspect it may have been a Buick V6 as they where a popular in that era, as they where cheap and available. But that is just a guess on my part. I suspect the reason was availability and price. I once had a 1939 Chevy Buisness Coupe that had of all things a Locomobile straight 8 installed in it by a previous owner. Who knows why? They had to cut the firewall and floor boards to fit the longer straight 8 engine in the car. It apparently worked for several years before the engine locked up.

Interesting story. Glad to be proved wrong if someone knows of a early Jaguar V6 engine.

Crosley Moonbeam airplane.

As for Jags there was a company in Paso Robles or Arroyo Grande or someplace on the Central Coast of CA that would yank the original V-12 and replace it with a GM V-8 and Borg Warner transmission. As a result used Jag V-12's were often offered for sale.

Is there a connection between the Crosley Moonbeam and the Jaguar engine discussion?
Is the connection to Crosley's automotive endeavors?

Taking Friday off of work (sorry for the 4 letter word) and heading to the gun club with my 7mm-08 rifle, an M1 Garand, a Browning .22LR T-bolt, and my Ruger Mark IV handgun that I just rebuilt with a new ejector, firing pin, trigger, hammer, etc.... So if I don't ever post again something went wrong with my work.
Saturday hope to head to Fagen Fighters for an event they are hosting, hope to finally see their P-47 in the air, and maybe their newly rebuilt Curtiss Helldiver.
I'll try to fit in a trip to the archery range with a Longbow or recurve sometime over the weekend.
May need to take Monday off to recover?

Our forecast for yesterday was 1-25mm rain.

We got 40, house water tanks are almost full, some more water in the dam and everything will turn green again. And we only got the edge of it.

Still waiting to find out how much others got - one friend got 63mm before we got any and he really needed it as he lost all the water from his tanks due to a broken pipe a few weeks back.

Edit - he got 90mm

Been searching for about 5 years now for a copy of AN 01-115KA-4, which is the IPB for my Fairchild. Found a source this week and ordered a copy. Got it this morning and been flipping thru it and ordered some hardware from the list in there. Only problem is the copy that they have, is missing the last 5 pages of the standard parts list and the service tools section. A little bummed, but very happy otherwise.

Earlier this year I received a letter from the IRS saying I had failed to report a great deal of 1099 income on my 2022 taxes. I responded with a letter pointing out that they had made serious errors consisting of:
1. Basic arithmetic, e.g. $3200 income - $2300 cost basis does NOT equal $3200 in income but rather $900 in income.
2. Marked inability to read and comprehend a 1099 form, i.e. on the 1040 we report the data on the 1099 SUMMARY page, not the details of the dozens of individual transactions, gains and losses.

They sent a letter back saying they were going to have to "study the matter more" and if I did not hear from them in 90 days to feel free to make inquiries.

And TODAY I got a letter from the IRS saying my previous correspondence had resolved the matter and it was now closed!

Yayyy! But I am still going to wrote my Congressmen and tell them that the IRS spent that extra $80 Billion hiring a bunch of absolute dummies.

We had a similar issue with different numbers.

What that you have there is a tax for the easily intimidated or those bad at math.

I reported their error in a refund I received 15 years ago. They sent me back to much money. I also showed them the math. I then received a second check. I went another letter and never heard back from them.

After a week of driving 2 hours one way. I have completed my jury duty for the us government. I live 5 miles short of the distance to get a government paid hotel at $208.00 a day plus meals. It was such a a waist of time. A couple was suing for damages when the police used to much force and did an illegal search of the house. What a waist of time. We went into deliberation at 11:30 and the court was providing lunch at 11:45. We took a in information vote to get a feel for were we where at and would start work after lunch. The poll showed we all agreed there was no evidence against the police. We were done by 11:35. We waited to turn in our findings after lunch.

Back in 1984 the IRS informed me that I had done my taxes wrong and that they owed me a larger refund, and the refund check was larger. Then a few months later I got another letter from the IRS saying that I had done my taxes right and they had done it wrong and they wanted the extra money to be paid back PLUS PENALTY AND INTEREST.

As near as I can tell, every single letter I have ever gotten from the IRS saying my taxes were calculated incorrectly has been WRONG, even when in fact I had made an error they made an even bigger error!
