Sure is - another kit for me to do the Hobbycraft 1/48th kit that's been sitting with one wing cut for about ...er...well, more than then years anyway !!

It's the Airfix 1/72 one. A fine investment of 5 or 6 quid. Only pitfalls are the stripes - the wing ones aren't big enough to completely meet at the leading and trailing edges, and the instructions are gloriously vague about the fuselage ones, If you look very closely at the pics, you will see the fuselage stripes are not straight - they 'point' towards the nose. I think those 'point's should be on the dorsal and ventral surfaces, but the instructions make no reference to a particular way of fitting at all. Either that, or the decals are duff. However, I would recommend it as a base for other decals - the kit is simplicity itself to build, detail is pretty good, and it's half the price of nearly everything else out there.

I've got that kit in the stash and I thought it looked pretty good for the price (I also have a PM models two-seater training Fury that I think may be based on the same mould). I think whene the time comes if I do that particular SF I'll paint the stripes on and use roundels from the spares box. There is an excellent aftermarket decal sheet for the Sea Fury, Xtradecal I think it is.

ok guys. I'm on a different comp since mine is crapping out on me. looks like I won't be uploading photos for a while. anyways, I've masked off the B314 and applied the sea blue. then pulled off the tape and masked off the plane for the second color. looks like I'll be done before I get my comp fixed.

okiedoke, I've got my comp fixed, and I'm working on putting the decals on the B314. having a bit of trouble getting some of the decals stay on the plane, tho. most particularly the engine cowlings and the leading edge of the portside horizontal stabilizer. I also need to do some paint touchups in some areas

I compare parts of two kits for 1/72 scale Bf109E. Revell no.04679 and Academy 2133 and 2214. Both of Academy kits are basicly the same. The 2214 kit includes parts for 1/72 scale Kettenkrad additionally. Of course different decal sets.

In the first picture below....the top one Revel Bf109E and the bottom one is of the Academy . Generally the Revel one is oversized, especially the rear part of fuselage (1.0 - 1.5mm) at any direction. The wing root is moved 2mm forward, the front area is 3mm too short, especiallt the bottom part of the engine cowling,
The Academy fuselage is 2mm too short at the front area ( the engine cowling is 1mm too short ), the wing root and cocpit hole are moved 1mm back( in addition the wing is 1mm too narrow at the root ) , the rear area of the fuselage is 2mm too long, the fin leading edge is of incorrect angle. But the main problem is a shape of the fuselage behind the cockpit. It is incorrect in cross-sections and about 1mm too small in its height. Also the front top part of the fuselage is just a little of incorrect cross-section and the oil radioator is too low.The exhaust pipes aren't set properly. In that way these are , fumes would be going out forward.

For both fuselages the stabilizer roots on fins are moved too much down.

Sure does show up. Don't know how old the Academy kit is, or if it uses another company's mould, but the Revell kit I think is probably the one from the mid 1960s. I vaguely recall that it was classed as inaccurate even then !

Terry, there is a date on sprues of these Academy kits I have. It is 1993. So it is quite new model. The Revell one can be of 60's. But it is not a problem. The Academy kit looks great at a glance. But close up shot can make a bear falling down. It is not a model of the cool German fighter but it is the miserable caricature like it is showed in the top-box art of the no.2214 kit.

Do you want to see anything?
