My understanding is that they were introduced in May 1940.

Thanks I thought it was introduced on the MkV. With such a famous bird you would think everything to know would be out there but I have googled it and can't find a decent source.

Edit: Seems that there were 2 different shapes of moulded seat. One introduced in may 40 that was the exact shape of the metal seat and it was a straight swap. Later a different shape moulded seat was introduced on the MkV possibly the moulded seat needed reinforcing.

That's what I've been following as well. We'll get to wheel well landing gear colours later :p. Anyhoo....seat harnesses done, not at all accurate, just something to add colour to.

Speaking of inaccuracies, Airfix forgot to include the cross-member behind the seat. I was looking at Brett Green's build of this and he never mentioned it so I'll leave it alone

I'll let the harnesses dry and then install the innards and button this up. Also in Brett Green's build, he mentioned an issue with the wing root/fuselage join. I notice this as well during a loose test fit. His solution was to just glue one side of the I.P and seat frame to the fuselage, join the fuselage together and then add a spreader bar at the point of the "V" shaped cutout in the fuselage. Sounds like a plan

Thanks gents. Andy, I used the pointy end of a round toothpick and Vallejo Model Color Brass. This stuff is fairly thick so I was confident the dot was going to stay in one place, one dot at a time

Just finished gluing in the seat frame and when it sets I'll do the I.P.. Hoping to start gluing the fuselage together before the Canucks stroke me out

Thanks Geo. I've tried similar with Testors enamel and Tamiya and could not get such a nice round dot. Too thin I guess. I wonder which Flames team will show up tomorrow - the one that beat Toronto 3-0 or the one that lost to Ottawa 6-1.

LOL...yep. Unfortunately I know which Canucks show up for every game. The ones that, when they are in the opposing zone on a power-play, pass 50 times instead of taking a shot and then lose possession or can't clear their own end and either take a penalty or get scored on after the third failed clearing attempt. Anyhoo....fuselage is together and working on the wings. Airfix has thoughtfully designed the kit so that the flaps can only be positioned in the lowered position, which the rarely are. The inner ribs are the culprit here so need to be removed.

Wings are on and resting comfortably; the spreader worked a treat. I'll need to add some plastic strip at the rear of the wing fuselage joint and a bit of mud along the side. The trial fit looked a lot worse. One this sets up, I'll get the vertical tail part glued on and then clean up the few seams I have. When that's done I'll put this aside and get going on tother one. I want to do the camouflage on both at the same time.

Doing some final stuff before moving over to the other build and I have two questions. Are the wheel wells and landing gear the same color as the under surface, Sky? Looks like the landing gear is.

The spinner and props, I'm thinking Version "A", de Havilland?

I do that to a lot of people. I just amended the post to read "A". Between these two. I think the top is de Havilland and the bottom is Rotol. I'm leaning to the top

Just got back from a half hour walk in the wilderness with family in the beginning if the current snow storm. All lit up and every couple hundred yards is an ice sculpture. They didn't tell me there would be hills. Installed the two piece oil cooler in place, a nice snug snap fit. The air filter is a different story; the mounting area is too high and too wide

Yep, the earlier De Havilland prop for this aircraft. ( version "A" in instructions ).
Gera legs are probably Sky, as well as the inside of the gear doors. The wheels could be bare alloy, but were sometimes also painted Sky, and look like they are the latter i/n the pic.

Thanks Terry. This one is done for now until the other one is up to this stage. You can see the lower fuselage insert that needed mud. The insert is narrow about halfway to the rear so if I put a spreader in it would throw the front out of kilter. Another place that needed mud was in front of the windscreen. It was slightly "V" shaped along the seam. Just a wee bit was added along some of the wing/fuselage joins. Landing gear is just pushed in for the photo op, a very positive fit unlike whats coming up on the other build
