Thanks guys.

Pisis, the cam is a Nikon D50. I use 2 lenses; a 28-80 zoom and a 70-300 zoom. A some point, I may be looking into either a 400mm or a 600mm lens, but they get pretty pricey, and heavy.

I have a 600mm Mirror but find it pretty useless for taking photos of aircraft. Suggest you try a 1.4x adapter which should make a significant differance for a small increase in weight and cost.

Good thought, Glider. I like to be able to zoom to pan as the plane passes by. That's one of the reasons I have been avoiding a fixed lens. I do know that you have to be real careful with a 600 especially where I live. The heat shimmer kills the focus. I have had that with the 300 in the right conditions.

I do know someone that has a 400 and a 600 that he said he would be willing to lend me. At least then I can try them out. I should see if he has a 1.4x also.

Here are a couple of the better shots from that day. With the skies as they were, black and white gave it a more vintage European air war look.

hehe, I don't care if anyone wants to put them into their own collections, even for personal websites, provided the image is unaltered. That being said, if you want a bigger one for a background, let me know and I can give you one optimized for your screen size.
