I didn't realize how much of an angle was on the Staggerwing until I got home. Kinda spooky.

Stu and crew were working on one of the T-6s in the hangar yesterday. Looks like bad news for the engine. 3 or 4 cylinders were not passing the compression checks. You can see them check the valve seat in the last shot, the bang on it a couple of times to make sure that valve seat is not the issue. You want 60 psi or better on the cylinder pressure check. One of them was 35.

Great series of "action" shots, Eric!

And by saying action, I mean this is the kind of shots you never really see.

You always see the aircraft all polished and shiny, landing taking off at airshows, strutting thier stuff. But you never really get a chance to see what goes on in the hangars between those events.

Good stuff!

Meanwhile back in England.......

As Adler said WL best thing is to have your own thread we all tend to have one and it avoids treading on other guys picture postings

Like the service pictures Eric though Im suprised they use a hammer all beit soft headed and not a valve compressor to ensure the valve seating.
Not being an aviation mechanic I have a question, is it within the rules to give cylinders a rebore and are you allowed to carry out valve regrinds and fit a new set of rings or do you have to fit new bore liners and just lap in the seats of a new set of valves

Thats what I like to see....grass roots aviation in real time....blokes mending and checking planes in a hangar....plane with all the cowlings off (not sure that blue cowling in the second shot will fit tho' !).

The monowheeling Staggerwing is a 'staggering' shot, nicely caught. Its great to get a totally unexpected action shot every now and then.

Yeah, while I like getting unusual shots, I don't really want to capture someone's final moments.

I do plan on getting out to the Condor Squadron more often and hope to catch more of the maintenance. I need to do that with the CAF again soon too.

I love this quote, from Margaret Bourke-White, who was an amazing photographer and an influence for me:
The camera is a remarkable instrument. Saturate yourself with your subject and the camera will all but take you by the hand.

Here is one of many outstanding photos from Margaret Bourke-White.

Looks super duper to me Eric, you've made a nice job of capturing the images despite the flat lighting conditions and it certainly adds atmos
I wish I could do some chase plane shooting it must be such a subject rich enviroment.
