So I had to order a new cable for my helmet comms. So, darn the luck, I had to test it out. We did a 2 ship Stearman formation from Santa Paula to Santa Ynez. I flew in one on the way up, and the other on the way back. It was a perfect day to fly, gorgeous and clear and totally CAVU! Here are some highlights from my day in the office.

Thanks guys. We did a 3 ship T-34 Mentor formation this morning for the Santa Barbara Marathon. The Half Marathon is for disabled veterans. The last section of the marathon was lined with flag and military vehicles. We were supposed to do a four-ship, but one of the airplanes had an exhaust gasket go bad. They have been working on it this afternoon and hopefully he will be ready for tomorrow. I had to show up at the hangar at 5:45 AM for the briefing and pre-flight. Dark and cold is the only way to describe it. It was 39 degrees F and breezy.

Tomorrow's Veteran's Day parade will feature a flyover by a 16 ship formation! A P-51 and a Hellcat will make the initial fixed wing passes (after 2 Hueys), the I will be in with the T-34s leading a mass formation 5 Nanchangs, 5 Yaks, a C-47 and a B-25. Talk about burning some gas!

Here are a few from today:

Thanks guys. Those were at sunrise, Merv. It was real early. I just got back from a huge mass formation. We had a ground abort, unfortunately, and that was the 4th T-34 again. I was really disappointed for the pilot. But we got off with 15 for the mass formation. The flyovers started with 2 Hueys, the the Hellcat and the P-51 fly over. Then we came in with a mass formation. I was in the #2 Mentor in a 4 ship with 3 T-34s and 1 Nanchang in #4. Behind us was the B-25 with 5 Yak-52s in formation followed by the C-47 with 4 Nanchang CJs. My pilot had me check our six to see if I could see them. "Tally Ho" was all I could eke out as I gazed in awe. Below is what I saw. I have more to go through, but this one is going to be one of those memories that I will never forget.
