Hawker Typhoon?

Having invested in the Airfix 1/24 Hawker Typhoon and not knowing if it's mention in my Typhoon/Tempest books or in that How to Build Airfix 1/24 Hawker Typhoon book, one thing that it seems to be divided opinions on, is the colour on the Napier Sabre engine...black or green and then, if green, what nuance(?) the green had?

This Napier Sabre engine, looks awfully black to me though, so.....opinions?

The few wartime col.our pics I've seen suggest black, and in B&W photos they seem to be black, Those actual engines I've seen have also been black.

Couldn't for my life, figure out, at first, what this 'D' was for....

....until I later found this.thingmajig..

See if I can found out what it is, in my two books....but, a guess.....oilcooler?

Don't think I've ever seen one actually fitted to a Typhoon, and seems a strange place for an oil cooler.
