You take the best of a Confederate cavalry trooper, the best of the toughest meanest horse indians, the Commanche, as good a rider as a Mexican vaquero, as good a marksman as a mountain man, as wild as a Lobo wolf, as dogged as a Mountie and a better drinker than the town drunk and you have the winner, hands down, the Texas Ranger. One riot, one Ranger. You can't stop a good man who is in the right and keeps on a coming.
 
12 Mounties did what the 7th Calvary was unable to do and make sitting Bull obey the law or face the consequences
 
Would not have worked with the Commanche. When those Indians from up north met the Commanche the Commanche had them for breakfast. They were the scourge of the Great Plains, ran the Apache out of Texas and raided so deep into Mexico they came back with parrots. The only group that could consistantly handle them was the Rangers. The US Army during the Mexican War had no cavalry and the Mexican Lancers were giving them trouble until the Rangers showed up. No more trouble from the Lancers. When Scott invaded at Vera Cruz and started toward Mexico City, the Mexican irregulars were cutting his supply lines and killing the wagoneers. The Rangers were called in and the supply line depredations were stopped. After Santa Anna surrendered and was being escorted out of Mexica City, he was lucky to leave with his scalp because if the Rangers had caught him it would have been over for him. Those sound like myths but they are all true(well, mostly)

He has all it takes to be a Marshall but doesn't want the B.S of "work'n fo da man."

Plus he's a wandering dude and has a stable of ladies from Missouri to Sacramento that are happy to be an informant just for a piece of A_ss

If it's Clint Eastwood, then he can be described as a gold seeker, hired gunman, outlaw, cowboy, hangman and vigilante all rolled into one.

He could also be described as a wanderer, bounty hunter, con man, dynamitist ,smarter than thou hero, and maybe even more. Several options I haven't got on the list.

Basically, like you said, "The Man with No Name."

Someone that may or may not have existed in the West, because nobody knows their names.
 
I voted for other. The "other" being the store/bar owner.

Gold/fur/cows brought the miners/trappers/cowboys, miners/trappers/cowboys brought the soldiers. The store/bar owner took all their money.
