Hey Jan whether you can get a replacement canopy or not....go with Terry's idea and try the polishing process anyway, it is a great learning experience to correct what has happened.....practice for the future if anther canopy has an issue!
 
I say old chap jolly good show, what. Absolute top notch, first time I've seen this thread.

Need to get a better glue for the canopies, hate when they turn milky by the smallest amount glue! Pain in the *rse!

Going back to this problem, I've also found by default that very fine abrasive dose the trick, talking 1000 to 2000 grade with a little help from a reasonable car polish.
