That must be an amazing sight!

I have only seen them once, when I was a kid and we had an unusual aurora event that had them faintly appear in Orange County on a cold winter night.

They were not even close to what happens up in your neck of the woods, though.
 
I once saw (1960) the ice effects on a highway from Colorado Springs to Denver. At a particular curve, many cars had slid off the road on both sides, when a Porsche pulled up near where we were waiting, a guy stepped out, pushed the car onto the ice and tried to steer walking along side. He ended up pushing the doorframe as he and the Porsche moved backwards into the median in veery slow motion. Quite an impression for a boy from the deep south.
