What the promoters were doing with the fire, was to recreate the natural phenomenon that occurs at certain times of the year during sunset.

The photo you posted was one such occasion when the setting sun is at the right angle that it illuminates the water fall.

By the way, the brutal fires we're having here in California are not the complete result of the "drought", it's because the Forest Service is not allowed to properly manage the forests...because of "guess who"?
