LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Universal Pictures is in negotiations to partner with the Weinstein Co. on "Inglorious Bastards," Quentin Tarantino's long-in-the-works World War II project.

Universal would co-finance the picture and handle international distribution. Weinstein Co. principals Bob and Harvey Weinstein will oversee production and distribute domestically.

No cast has been set, but Tarantino has met with Brad Pitt for a lead role. The movie is eyeing an October start in Berlin.

Tarantino wrote the script, which tells two story lines that converge: One follows a group of prisoners-turned-soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis, and the other follows a young Jewish woman who seeks to avenge the death of her parents by this Nazi group.

The Weinstein Co. increasingly has been seeking out partners on its movies as it looks to stem losses from a lack of hits. Not even Tarantino's name is the sure bet it was several years ago after the flop of 2007's "Grindhouse," his Weinstein-backed collaboration with Robert Rodriguez.

Don't even look for a "Private Ryan" type of movie here. And if Pitt is on board it may be the big screen version of Peyronie's disease.
