When I lived in Cary NC, I was not far from a main North/South rail line. Lots of freight trains, and several road crossings. The mournful sound of a train horn was somehow rather comforting. We had visitors from the UK now and again, and they all commented on how American trains sounded different and they seemed to think better. More realistic was the most frequent comment.
