No the officials call fouls because according the rules they are fouls no matter if the player is hurt or not. You knock a player over because you came into contact with his foot and not the ball because the ball was allready passed to another player is foul which is a foul which is a foul.

You have to understand the rules to understand the game.
okay fine but would it not be better to get up and back in the play rather then make googly eyes as you roll around feigning pain at the official in hopes he'll call a foul I am enjoying the games but the guys falling down like the Ukrainian dude etc are not making it more fun to watch

Believe it or not. Those that are on the ground feining in pain, are really in pain.

Dont take me wrong there are those that are not and in the end they the game goes on without them until they get up. They are pansies but that happens on a much lesser level than you make it out to be.

Like the the the guy from portugal who was struck on the thigh with the kicked ball and then gets hauled off by stretcher yes it probably stings and it'll bruise but the game is still going get up and stop swanning around like a spoiled baby

Whatever, you are entitled to think what you think.

Here is what I think though. I wonder how you would feel and react in a match if you were the one kicked with full force and speed in the thigh with football cleats on? Think about it.

If i was lucky enough to represent my Nation (pride) i would try and act like nothing happened yes it would hurt like hell but you gotta get up and try maybe its the hockey mentality but you never let the other guy know he hurt you .

I would believe it when I would see it.
You've been in situations where guys get hurt far worse and still perform because they do no wish to let the crew or squad or team down is it any different you are representing your country be it in sports or any endeavour you take your lumps

I've been nailed with a puck shot at over 90 mph in the cheek, which shattered one of my molars, and yet I continued my shift and had one shot and 2 checks before heading for the locker room to get stitched up....

Soccer players take more dives than Greg Louganis and fake injuries to get a Yellow Card/Red Card pulled out.... Its disgusting, and atleast the NHL has started calling more diving penalties....

I watched the whole Netherlands/Portugal game and it was sad, so sad, to see these grown men rolling around on the turf as if their leg was gashed wide open gushing blood....

I have played soccer before, and always was amazed at how much faking and acting were involved in it... Ur wrong in ur arguments Adler... Ive been cleated before and it doesnt hurt as much as these grown men make it look like it does......

I remember this one time, in Band Camp........

I agree on the diving it is **** and so obvious at times (did you see the Tunisian against Spain who later got sent off?)

Anyhow Portugal beat Holland 1 - 0. Both teams where down to 9 men at the end and 16 yellow cards where issued. Didn't watch the game but it sounds like it was a battle.

It was pathetic, Holland deserved to lose because there was so much diving. Portugal weren't exactly clear of it, but the Dutch were worst. Both played pathetically. But Portugal will beat England.

If England has to rely on Beckham to score their goals, Portugal will beat em easily, even tho Portugal has lost their best player to a red card...

I actually watched the whole game, and at the end it wasnt 9 on 9, but 10 on 9 in favor of the Dutch, who had many chances during the injury time.... Almost scored several times, but almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades so........

Argentina will lose, you will see. They are not playing very well and no one is playing better football right now than Germany.
What ever happens it should be a good game. Of all the quarter finals the Italy Ukraine game will probably be the least entertaining all of the others should be good games which is something to look forward too.

I stated from the very beginning that Ukraina isn´t to underestimate, hence they are in the quarter finals, now. They will deal with Italia, hard to say who will win BUT: A week before the opening matches both played and ended 2:2 (Ukraina without Chevchenko). (1:2 for Ukraina)
Argentinia vs Germany.... 3:2. Probably either no goals except for penalty shooting or a hi speed sluggisch, impossible to say who wins. I would like to see Germany winning, but have to admit that Argentinia is more probable to do so.
If it is coming to be a close match, Riquelme is supported by Aimar (have an eye on both) and Argentinia never lost with this combination except for the finals of the confed cup against Brasilia (Aimar entered the game for the last 15 min and made the last goal). So, Germany is a bit hyped now. Argentinia did not showed everything to date.
England vs Portugal is a close match as well. England undoubtly will have to improve in every aspect other than this they will loose. Portugal suffered from to many yellow cards, so even if they win, they will be gravely impaired in the half finals. (2:1)
Brasilia vs France- one of the top matches around. I cannot say, who wins. Brasilia played all games pure defensively, nothing like the attractive football they played in the last championship. France isn´t better either. No idea.

personally I would luv to see the Ukraine go the finals. Germany has an edge even if it is only the home team crowd and that is really all she needs to get hyped even if she plays like a dog
