For your much better understanding, this is the Chinese architecture I was impressed with in Taipei, Taiwan twenty years ago.
I believe the Japanese ancient architectures also could have had the same atmosphere at the time.
The former IJA 4th Division Headquarters built in 1931.
As this old building had been almost closed for a couple of decades, I thought this would be demolished sooner or later but, to my delight, has been fully renewed for citizens and tourists recently. I had a chance to tour today.

I frankly felt that, good or bad, the past is always with us.
BTW, new naming for the building is "MIRAIZA" which means a theater for the future.
