Thanks guys for the comments!
I have been doing a ton of research and I was (suprise!) wrong about the date, possible colors and insignia of the F6F that O'Hare took posession of while commanding VF-6 in 1943. Apparently his was one of the first batch to leave the Grumman Iron works and was finished in the then standard intermediate blue over grey with the star in an insignia blue circle. Planes were repainted at squadron level later. So, repainting will be in order, after the F-8 is done.

Well, my Silly Putty buddy, got the Sheriff on it. In the mean time, I'll just put a couple of old couches under the wings and use it as a front porch!

And the bomb bay will hold a sh!t load of ice and Buds!
You'll keep well hydrated while the Sheriff is out doin Her work.
My daughter is one in Alameda Co. CA. I'll put her on it in case they've gone west with the parts.

Minor disaster, as disasters go...
Thought the top color was dry enough. It wasn't.
