Just watched "The Book of Eli" and it got me to thinking - again - of my favorite post-apocalyptic movie ( or dystopian meaning having underlying cautionary tones, warning society that if we contiunue to live how we do, this will be the consequence.)

This can be multiple choice. I did a Last Man vs Zombie so those type of movies won't work here. But going through the choices, you'll get the idea.

I had to vote for 4 of em...."Book of Eli", "Waterworld", "Escape from New York", and "Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome". Some of the classic favorites I remember loving as a kid.

Hey....I remember seeing a similar movie as a kid, but can't remember the title, and neither can anyone whom I've asked. It was your classic rebels-against-the-evil-empire, but with technology. The rebels flew around in a big desert-cammo C130, drove dunebuggies with machine guns, their vehicles' paint was photosensitive (desert cammo in the light, faded to black in the dark). They had a holographic projector they used on occasion, and their command van looked like the one from the A-Team, except it had a turrent-mounted laser that popped out of the top for defense. I'm wanting to say the movie was called "Omega Force" or "Mega Force" or something like that. Anyone else remember this flick?
 
And 'The Day After Tomorrow', perhaps the ultimate 'warning society that if we contiunue to live how we do, this will be the consequence' film, which seemed to be trying to give all viewers a bit of a rap on the knuckles and make them feel bad about driving to the cinema in their cars.

 
I'd have voted for Metropolis (1927), 1984 (1984), Minority Report (2002) and Gattaca (1997). I like the concept of Blade Runner, but much prefer the original novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, which was, IMHO, far more dystopian than the film.

The last two are a bit controversial, they are usually classified as sci-fi, and are both set in broadly utopian societies, but the films deal with decidedly dystopian elements - law and order in Minority report, and eugenics in Gattaca.
 
Waterworld RA??? Really? I think you and 3 other people are the only ones that like that movie. It's is (or was) the biggest blockbuster failure in movie history. But hey, if you liked it, then you liked it. Fare enough.....

SPOILER ALERT: You are meant to come to the conclusion that he is - the little paper unicorns are the give away, as they are supposed to be some kind of 'implanted memory'. In the book, he is definitely very human though.
 

I know of one other guy who will admit to liking Waterworld.
 
Yep...ME!! It actually grows on ya and itsn't really all bad. "The Postman" was a bit worse but still not bad. Can't see how they flopped but...oh well.
 
I didn't enjoy Postman nearly as much. I'm not a big Kevin Costner fan, though, so that's not a surprise.

Guess nobody else saw the same movie I did as a kid?
 
Mad Max 2 The road warrior is one of my all time favorite films even though I have lost count of the number of time I have seen it. Bruce Spence as the gyro copter pilot is classic. Also went for Blade runner, Brazil and Escape from New York
