!@#$%^&* nbn again. Note today's date and when the outage is supposed to take place.

I bluntly told my ISP they need to read emails from nbn before passing them on and that I had notified two major news services and included both this weeks emails to them.

So now we may have two 6 hour shutdowns without warning but no one except nbn know when.

We've had two instances of someone else getting connected and ours being disconnected at the same time. Don't know
why or how but the internet company we are with has now got there own sub contractor down here and things are fixed
very quickly.

You isp is like this:

No new news here All the above about nbn is true !

Don't know about the old dial-up wire system in Hobart, Tassie but in Launceston it was problematical when it was wet - lots of drop-outs. Launceston is the second-largest town in Tassie and a proper hillbilly town too (mumbling, bumbling types abound)

As soon as nbn installed the fibre-optic, they ripped out the old copper wire telehone cables.

AT&T discontinued their DSL service last year, leaving tens of thousands of rural customers without internet.

They allege that I can subscribe to their fiber optic plan (which is much more expensive), but there is no fiber optic lines within 20 miles of here - so basically, I'd be gettimg the exact same service as I had with DSL over copper lines, but for 3 times the cost.

Suuurrrrre, sign me up...

We are somewhat lucky because there is a fixed wireless tower less than 700 metres away as the copper lines in this area are all dead. You are supposed to use cell phones but many local areas have no coverage. We are on the top of a ridge so get 3 bars outside but only two inside.

Fixed wireless downside is that the tower can only handle x gig per minute so if everyone is online it is @#$%^& slow - as in often slower than the old 1990s 56k modems slow.

Truck decided to barf both batteries this morning when I went to run some errands....Can't get replacements til tomorrow and the ones I need are not deliverable. Stuck at home til my little sister gets off work tomorrow morning and lets me have her van for a couple of hours. We own 8 vehicles and now all are down for parts or major maintenance and repair.

All of them made by Ford?

All of them made by Ford?
Nope...Two Ford Super Duty's, two Chevy pickups, two Audi's, a VW and a Ural..... The F250 ate the batteries this morning, the F350 has a blown o'ring in the high pressure oil system, one Chevy lunched the trans, the other jumped time. The Ural needs an engine overhaul and tires, one Audi needs the timing belt and and both timing chain tensioners, the other Audi needs an air control valve and the VW has a locked up crank. I lost access to my VW and Audi specialist a couple of years ago when he moved and I found out that he passed away in April of this year. When he moved, I also lost access to a lift, so it's back to jacks and jack stands while rolling around on the driveway or in the gravel, out in the sun. Hard to do much in the open like that, in a reasonable amount of time.

So, this week three colleaugues and myself have been breaking down and packing up the welding workshop at the college prior to it's move to the new workshop in our main site.

Appros 5 tonnes of scrap collected, much grind cutting, oxy-acetylene cutting and packing crate filling.

Another colleague had been requested to come and assist since this time last week, he arrived today at approx 2pm just as we were sweeping the floor......

See? You couldn't have done it without him.

You will have to call him blister - shows up when all the work is done.

100 degree plus heat competing with my homes AC. I moved to FL to retire 9 years ago and every year since it's gotten hotter and hotter. I wish I could have afforded to stay in New England but unfortunately I had to RIP. Retire Into Poverty, it's cheap to live in FL but the weather in the last few years AIN'T worth it!

There was an ENT study in Holland some ten years back on the use of bleach in houses and the medical outcomes. I presume by bleach they meant chlorine bleach but the report did not specify that.

Houses where bleach was used once a week or more had a massively higher incidences of two illnesses. Tonsilitis was one but I cannot remember the other. I had the report on a hard drive that died before I got religious about backups.

For a long while in PNG we got no phone bills and on asking why through a contact we found that our number was part of the Chinese embassy account. We did not complain.
