Some Low Life stole my wife's 2020 Charger Scat Pack from her work place this morning. She got out of it at 5:10am and it was gone at 5:30am when her coworker arrived. I really have no use for thieves! What sucks is she special ordered it just the way she wanted it, and they stopped making them late last year so it can't be replaced new. I am actually more than a little annoyed at the moment.
Until I got the phone call I was actually making some progress on her 1961 Jaguar Mark 2's brakes. Well that didn't last long!

Thanks for all the good thoughts, we might have some good news on the car, the Detroit Police have recovered the car, but all I know about its condition is that the rear window is broken, and the license plate is gone. Fingers crossed that that is the worst of the damages.

Wishing you all the best. Having gone through that, I know it's a very traumatic experience.

Big meeting at work earlier in the week. I am 3 weeks short of 1 year working for the state. I am still employed. So how you like work? My response is like...

Male announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone.

Female announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone.

Male announcer: [later] The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone.

Female announcer: No, the white zone is for loading of passengers and there is no stopping in a RED zone.

Male announcer: The red zone has always been for loading and unloading of passengers. There's never stopping in a white zone.

Female announcer: Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for stopping!

Male announcer: Listen Betty, don't start up with your white zone shit again.
[Later]

Male announcer: There's just no stopping in a white zone.

Female announcer: Oh really, Vern? ....

Well the car was recovered in much better condition than I could have hoped for, but it won't start so the drive train condition is unknown. The passenger side rear door window is broken, the interior is dirty, damp, and smells like smoke, the key fobs don't work, and there is damage to the shifter and center console, and some wires are hanging down under the glove box. The plate was actually in the trunk, as was her hand knit shawl.
Actually feeling very lucky, we were able to get the car out of the Detroit city impound 5 minutes before they closed at 3:00pm, and it was towed to our local body shop. Pending the inspection of the chassis, and paint condition. I think it was the best possible outcome! Whew!

I will post some pictures tomorrow, its been a very long day!

Here are the promised Pictures, I an still really amazed at the cars condition, at 1st glance it looks like they just took it for a joy ride and ran it until it was out of gas. They went thru everything, and left a bunch of snack wrappers in the car. But dependently not much a old woman considers necessary in her car was of interest. The Battery is still in the car but is dead, evidently the alarm system was going off when it was toed in Thursday afternoon. Next week the show will see if they can reteach the Key fobs, and get it started, they are trying to trickle charge the battery over the weekend. Fingers crossed that nothing was damaged on the drive train. One good thing is the winter tires don't have much grip in the rain so really abusing the engine would have been difficult.
The day consisted of 2 hours on the phone with the Detroit Police Impound Lot to find what location it was at, returning the rental car as my employer was Kind enough to let me use our company Pool car for 2 weeks (my employer does treat us better than any company I have ever worked for) Diving an hour to the Grand River Ave impound Lot, Dealing with the short staffed but actually very friendly lot staff. Waiting 2 hours for our turn in line. Paying the $245 impound fee. (that will be reimbursed by the insurance Co.) Finding out it wouldn't start and getting a roll back truck willing to take it 45 miles to our local repair shop.
I considered we were very luck, it was about 40F out, very warm for late January in S/E Michigan. We were actually the last people to get their car out yesterday before they closed up at 3:00pm, The rain held off until we got the car unloaded at the Body shop, and the Body shop owner who I have known for 30+ years paid the tow bill and said he will just add it to the insurance claim. I think it went as smooth as it could have, with a better than I could have hoped for result.
Thanks for all the support and well wishes everyone!

Manager of a local business had an older car stolen one night from his business. Police called next morning to tell him
it was left bogged a few miles away. His young worker had a car trailer with a winch and went out to get it.

Laughed all the way back. The thieves had got bogged and tried rocks and lumps of wood under the wheels to get it
out. They must have got a fair bit of mud on themselves as it was splattered all round the car. Problem was they put
all the rocks/wood under the back wheels and the car was a front wheel drive.

Glad you got it back in one piece save for a little ware and hopefully no as yet unnoticed damage. Granted it looks a bit rough up inside, but that is only surface rubbish and film, soon cleaned. Having said this, it doesn't alter the fact that you and the wife will feel as though you have been violated and the car will not feel quite the same for for a while yet. Anyway, good luck and I hope the damage is minimal. :thumbright:
