Pouring rain today AND my RML 73 finally arrived. Not what I expected GRUN to be. So all upper surfaces sprayed GRUN. The wing/fuselage under surface is light blue as with all German aircraft, the wingtips and cowl underside yellow...next post

According to the Italerie instructions the upper surface is solid RLM 73 (Grun) with the underside RLM 65 (Hellblau). I guess as a seaplane no 2 or 3 tone camo
 
I did a bunch of research, 72/73 on shipboard aircraft. 73 for harbor based craft, but if you are doing Bismarck, (or any ship), 72/73 was used.
Great job on the interior!
 
Sorry if I'm a bit late on this one Mike, still working on getting my act into gear. I have found these rather shabby shots of your machine, as you can see from the second pic, she was a well used and worn looking beast. My references also show that with Ar 196s employed in coastal protection and escort duties, the colouring was in either the RLM 73 or the splinter camouflage of RLM72/73 upper surfaces with RLM 65 under surfaces (I know, I'm partly contradicting Paul above post here). The only exceptions I have been able to fine are the aircraft employed on the cruisers where, since making my Ar 196 entry, I have found French markings on the aircraft used by the cruiser 'Widder' or as I am going to do, the overall RLM 65 as employed by the cruisers 'Orion' and 'Admiral Scheer'.

If you look at the second picture where the camouflage netting is being removed, you can determine (I think) where the splinter camouflage colour changes. As I say, 'I think' and perhaps others would like to chip in with their 10 pence worth.

Hope I've not upset the apple cart to much Mike cause it's a great build your doing.





 
Vic no problem whatever, your 2 pence, centavos, cents is always welcome. And the same to all who pitched in. As you can see from the directions only two colors are called for: topside RLM 73 and bottomside RLM 65 I exclude the yellow cowling and wingtips. Got the yellow sprayed and once nice and dry will spray the Hellblau bottom. Working on the pontoons and land-cart

2. Staffel, of Seeaugklarungsgruppe 125, was based in Suda Bay Crete from 7/42 to 12/43. 7R + BK in the harbor (in color Vic) and an artists rendering showing the single topside RLM 73 and yellow wingtips and cowl

That yellow came out good Mike and I do like that full colour shot, certainly clarifies things.

That three dimensional profile I sent you today should also help.
