Bill, if you can't get the guns sorted, by any method, you could always leave all turrets empty.
The guns were only installed immediately prior to an operation, normally after any flight test, and sometimes as the crew prepared to board. When the aircraft was standing at dispersal, and particularly if not on 'Ops' for a day or two, the guns were removed, cleaned by the gunners, and returned to the armoury.

Didn't know that, but they are on there way and will stuff them in ASAP.
Just the sliding windows to paint the frames on.

Same in the USAAF, Luftwaffe etc. Weapons aren't left out in the elements to corrode.

Absolutely correct of course.
Guns removed for servicing. But somehow, it just doesn't look right....

I agree too - it wouldn't look 'right' without those barrels sticking out - but at least it's an option.
