As far as I know, the Dornier pilot used a seat-type chute like the one you posted, which he sat on. The oother crew members used chest-mounted 'chutes, which were stored in racks in the cockpit unless needed, when they were clipped to the harness, worn all the time. Some other aircraft types, the pilot wore a back-pack chute, I think the heinkel being one of them. The seat would not have a cushion if a seat-type 'chute was used, although the seat back might have had a brown leather padding, like Wayne's Ju88.
