These stripes weren't used for the D-Day but were the ID stripes on Royal Navy aircraft during the Korean War. They looked like those invasion 18 inches ones but were of 10-16 inches in width depending on a squadron.

BTW...great models. :cool:
 
I can only find the US having fitted skis to the P-47, but nothing on the Russians having done that. The only unusual things I can find the Russians ever did with them was the 255th IAP of the North Fleet's Air Arm using them for dive bombing and skip bombing. Also have not found any pics of them with the white wash.
