Thanks Red Two !
The tones are more discernible in 'real life', as it were, as without a proper lighting set-up, the 'metal' surfaces are slightly tricky to photograph effectively. This is noticeable where surface detail is 'burnt out' by reflections, and where darker tones appear lighter for the same reason.
I've got a little bit more done on the rear end, as well as some very light panel-line work, although there's still more to do. Just about to get back to it, and paint the wing tanks, plus the 'loose' bits such as the wheel well doors. Hopefully, I might have some more pics later.

I got an old ESCI F-104 kit for a really cheap price off e-bay, and it arrived today, to be built as the same aircraft, '771' after it was sold to Denmark, where it served with Esk 726 at Aalborg, in the overall green colour scheme, as 'R-771'.
I have two minor problems though - first, the kit is an F-104C, with the smaller fin and rudder, which I think I can convert to look reasonably like a 'G', and second, trying to find Danish roundels is like trying to get Jan out of a lap-dancing bar that serves free beer !
I think I'll either have to make some roundels, and touch-in around the edges, as the white decal paper will probably show, or, probably the better option, make masks and paint the roundels, although they're rather small, so masks could be tricky to cut.
Either way, this one is going to be a relatively quick build, OOB apart from the fin and exhaust shroud alterations, no interior detail, and a simple, but fairly weathered paint job, just to stand as a comparison to the shiny, bare metal RCAF bird when it was new.

Thanks Evan. I didn't get back to it as soon as I thought - had a visitor who's just left, so looks like it'll probably end up as another late night at the bench !

Thanks Cory.

I've managed another few hours work, although there's not much to show for it, as most was some subtle shading around the rear area, with still lots to do. The wing tanks, undercarriage doors and the main wheel well have also been painted, using Xtracolor 'Duralumin' to provide some contrast between these areas and the bright fuselage.
The masking tape has been removed from the wings, which took almost an hour (!), and there's a little re-touching of the grey required on the underside of one wing, where some of the silver managed to bleed through the tape. A couple of tiny spots on the white upper surfaces also need a tiny touch of paint, mainly where I was ever so slightly 'out' with the masking of one wing root fillet.
Once the paint on the wing tanks has fully hardened, they'll receive a very light buffing, without using the finger print powder, before the joint lines, as seen on the real tanks, are picked out in a slightly darker shade. Once that's done, they'll be given a coat of semi-gloss varnish, and the top and bottom of the wings will be given a gloss clear coat, ready for the decals.
There's still a lot of delicate work to do on the fin, in the way of adding the darker lines around the joints of the various panels, as well as re-touching one of the smaller, grey antenna panels, and finishing the striations around the rear fuselage, and some under-side panel lines, all of which will take some time, as it's a bl**dy awkward area to access.
The pics show how things look so far, and note that the avionics bay cover is only loosely positioned, for the photos. The dielectric panel on this, and on the upper and under-sides of the fuselage, really needs to be lightened slightly, which will also be done before moving on to the next stage.
Hopefully, I'll get more done tomorrow, and I'll post some more pics then.

Thanks Wojtek, Karl, Cory and Geo !
Still plodding on, working on the wing tanks and the re-touching, all slow, delicate work - and my wrists and arms are starting to feel the strain. Santa didn't bring me a new body (probably thought it's too late for that!), so I'll have to take a break for an hour or two. Might have some more pics later .......

Very nice colorful Terry. It is running very well.
I'm interested how shall be these metal tone. I just recently purchased my first 3 metallic shades of Alclad II. Not yet I assemble an entire metal aircraft.
I pending to keep learning.

Felices fiestas de fin de año!!

Thanks very much, Evan and Luis Carlos.
I'm having a rest from it at the moment, as I'm aching quite severely now, due to the tight angles and prolonged concentration. Also, it could be very easy to 'over work' the finish, and spoil it completely. I think that, once the decals are in place, it'll suddenly 'come alive', and the polished areas, white wings and the varied metal tones will stand out more.
All being well, I hope to get a little more done tomorrow, before going out on the p..., .. er .., ahem, going out socialising for New Year !
Depending how Compus my Mentus is on Thursday, I'll try to post some more then, if not sometime tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I've had a bit of luck, and found not only Danish roundel decals, but a sheet covering RDAF F-104's in the later, green finish, including serial numbers and stencils etc, from Stoppel Decals in Denmark, ordered via the Aviation Megastore at Schippol, Amsterdam.
Now there's a mix - a model of an ex -RCAF Starfighter, in Danish markings, built by a Brit, with Danish decals made in Denmark, and bought in Holland, to be shipped to England !
With a bit of luck, and a following wind, converting the old ESCI F-104C kit to the CF-104 as a '104G in the RDAF, should be reasonably straightforward (famous last words !), and I can use the Martin Baker seat from the Revell kit, and use the ESCI practice-bomb carrier on the Revell kit too.
Job's a good 'un !

Thanks Hugh.
I've only managed a small amount of 'tidy-up' work so far, as I've been out of commission for the last two days, due to 'flare-up' of the arthritis.
Bl**dy stupid disease, why pick New Year to have a go at me, you b@st@rd!
Missed New Year's eve, and still somewhat painful, though not quite as bad as yesterday.
Might get some more done, and some pics, some time tomorrow, if things improve.
