The model is coming out great Matt, cant wait to see her all done up and finished... Speaking of that, how come u aint participating in the Gruppe Build???

I was hoping I could be an ignorant judge and not have to denegrate myself with my lack of knowledge of virtually anything Reich Defense. Seriously, you guys debating proper color bands, Gruppe number colors and location, and other markings intimidate the $hit out of me.

Hey Matt, what you using for the rigging? Can I suggest getting some CA activator or 'kicker', it sets CA instantly when applied, it'd make the rigging ordeal a lot easier.

I intend to use 100% polyester linen thread. It's thin or thinner than a hair. I was going to glue it with Krazy Glue.

What is "CA activator or kicker"? Something other than a cryanocylate glue?

Hey Matt, don't let all that pre-build cackling put you off the Group Build! Just throw in anything fighter-like, Luftwaffe, late '43 to May '45, AND be a judge!
Far as I know, that CA stuff is called an accelerator, and does as Muller says. Never seen it here in the UK, but I know it is available, probably through building-trade suppliers, or some 'specialist' model shops.
That pic of Wildcat's, imagine a caption; "Yes dear, just as soon as I finish sewing my aeroplane back together!"

Sorry Matt, CA is cyanoacrylate glue, depending on the glue it takes a while to harden, 10-60 secs say, thats a long time to be holding a thread with a tweezers, especially if you've got the shakes like me! The activator hardens the CA instantly when sprayed on. It comes in a small pump-action bottle, I got some on ebay for about $5.

I used to work in a pcb factory, we used to use that activator all the time when gluing wires to the backs of motherboards, there were 5 gallon drums of the stuff lying around, never realised how expensive it was, or I'd have a fair few gallons of it at home right now!

Hmmm... I build my model, install my wings after four attempts, use my glue with your accelerant and wake up with a 10 inch tumor growing out of my forehead. Not sure I trust potentially carcinogenic "accelerants" in making my models.

Just kidding, Muller. I bet I've sniffed more glue and huffed more paint thinner than the most hardcore addict. I would be really interesting in where I could pic up a spray bottle of your "magic juice". My hands too are shaky. The small stuff was so much more easier when I was 15.

Cheers and thanks for the tip, buddy.

When would you glue wires to motherboards?? We'd only do that to reinforce soldered wires for re-flow oven temperature testing.

...Great work Matt on the Walrus..I'm interested to see how you manage your wiring too!

None taken Terry!

A4K, different spec motherboards were built on the same pcb, so some would require a trace to be cut and the signal re-routed to another pin/via hole on the board, the only way to do this would be with a wire soldered on. Sometimes a pcb has open traces, a manufacturing fault on the pcb makers side or if board got damaged and some traces broken, a wire can fix it.

That was all so long ago, I've been out of that industry for 10 years now.

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread Matt!

At time of writing, I'm still in it Muller, as of 5 years, although from tomorrow 30% of staff are gonna be laid off (about 1500 people - thankyou World economic crisis ), so this might be history shortly.
(I'm a solderer/ quality inspector, btw)

...And sorry too, Matt! Now let's get back to that Walrus, shall we? preferably without fire crackers up it's *ss...

I worked in test/debug/repair, the whole production line was moved to the far east in '98. Hope you're job is safe mate. Dell layed off 1900 people here today. Scary economic times.

Again, sorry Matt!

Been finalizing the matt clear coat, the cockpit frame colors and other odds and ends. Hope to work on the rigging here soon, gents. I should post pics of her in her matt color. Makes all the difference.

Once that is done, I need only to finish the Lewis MG installation, the pilots port sliding window, the HF aerial, the wing floats and the bow rope lines.

Almost there!!!

Looks great what you've done so far. I don't know about you, Matt, but it's all the little fiddly bits at the end, like the clear parts, the guns, pitot tubes etc. that kill me. I got more than just a few nearly-completed models sitting around that just need a few odds and ends done to complete them. But I will get to them, someday, Oh yes I will!
