I'm not sure but I think it was some sort of collector ring for the exhaust. I know a lot of the Italian planes had the same copper looking cowl fronts. I'm sure someone around here would know for sure.
Yes, it was an exhaust collector ring, same as on the Beaufighter. In my MTO Beau thread, you'll be able to see the individual exhaust pipes, running forward from each cylinder to the collector ring.
Very Nice Dirk! The masks for the Special Hobby fit the Airfix canopy Ok? I wonder it they'd fit the Squadron vac canopy too. sure would save a lot of time.
I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I have had this kit in storage for awhile because I really could not get excited about it. Seeing what you are doing I'm starting to get excited about it. Nicely done!
