Great find Andy! A couple showing Dan's Grandad too, well done mate!
Dan, notice the thin white 'stripes' on the lower wing of the Corsair in the background of one of the shots. You probably already know, but this was tape, covering the panel joints. I've got a couple of pics of a (serviceable!) Corsair, from the front, showing this tape, one of them you'll most likely have - the one with all the guys on the wings, with baseball bats.
EDIR: I must find and send you that pic I mentioned - with the helmet on, your Grandfather bears a resemblance to me at the same age!

This is just dryfitting Cory, trying to imagine/plan out how Im gonna scratch build detail the stbd side gun bay....

Question on the tail wheel bay, I know that the interior walls are zinc chromate yellow on the F4U-1A's, but is the framework/bulkhead assembly also zcy???

Nice shots there Dan, Ive been looking for color profiles so you get the right colors with detail. Reason for the color pictures.
 
Once we get what the colors are, we gotta go back in the day to see how they looked in combat... I think Ive got what I need to make an attempt at this... Its a big gamble on a model I care about... The extra time is also a concern... Its gonna affect the painting and decal process significantly...

Like I said, its a gamble...
