It's bl**dy marvellous, this place! If a few of the people here were to put all this advice and the tutorials into a book, it would run to several volumes, and cost a fortune! Where else can you get such info, help and guidance, and for free !!!
Wojtek, you're doing a fantastic job with your young apprentice - think I'll start refering to you as 'The Sorcerer'!!

Its called a Pin Vice Harrison, and it is used to drill small holes delicately. I am sure that the more experienced guys will have better methods than me.

You are doing very well my man

Unscrew the top of the pin vice, the vice part comes out. If you look at the top of the vice, it's split into 4 quarters on both ends. One end is like this.....

The other should have a small hole in it like this....

Mine has another vice inside the other end of the pin vice too, with larger center holes. Unscrew the end to get this vice.

The size of the drill bit you want to use depends on which end of the vice you use, the smallest drill-bits can be clamped in the vice with no center hole. Bigger drill bits will fit into the other end. When the top is screwed back in place the vice clamps onto the drill-bit so it won't budge.

The end of the pin-vice rotates, place the drill bit where you want the hole, press down on the end of the pin-vice with your thumb and rotate the shaft to drill a hole.

Hope this makes sense! :D

Great explanation Keith. The only thing I would add, is make a small indentation first, at the point where you wish to drill, in order to prevent the tip of the drill bit slipping. Use the tip of your scalpel balde, or a pin, to do this. Start drilling slowly, until you feel the bit starting to bite, then gently increase the downward pressure, but not too heavy. Keep the drill (pin vice) vertical to the job whilst drilling.
As with any new tool, have a bit of a practice on some scrap first.

A great tool H, your gathering quite a collection. Good advice from the gurus to, but gentleness is the key when using a pin vice, the small drills are very frail and will snap very easy. The build is coming along great to H and I know your having fun.
