The Dragons tail is close to me in WNC. Of course, I am an old truck driver so anything within 200 miles is close to me.

OK, splains it. Have ridden the Dragon many times, relatives in Knoxville, camped the Smokes. and have had ralleys in asheville, big old mansion there, Biltmore? and this big old rock sticking up you could climb up to. And the cop-per-mile Blue Ridge Parkway. Good times

I had my '68 Honda Scrambler 4 days, chasing an experienced rider up a road like that dragons tail. 4 weeks in the hospital, broken right femer, blood clot left lung. Pinned the leg and I was water skiing 6 weeks after the accident. What were the y saying about Hondas in '68? "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". Just didn't add it would be in a hospital ward. Carried a crutch with me on the bike for about 2 months.

Had a friend with a HD Sportster, I got to ride it whenever I wanted, loved that little machine. Would love to have one now, but I am afraid I would be living alone if I did.

I had a couple of Sportsters. An 883C and a 1200C. Miss those bikes. Always thought they were the best looking of the Harley line. No extra bits, needless adornments or styling.

Jan, that's 200mi from Ashville. I'm coming from Arkansas and a good 1/3 of the trip is through a national forest and the appalachian mountains where one crow mile equals 10 road miles. If he lives near Franklin I estimate more like 680 - 700mi or about 1200km

Are ape hangers comfortable? I always rode sporter bikes as a youth and anything uprighting your torso only caught the wind and made riding more fatiguing.

Matt, not only do they cause fatigue, but the vibrations along with the raised arm position shuts off the blood-flow to the arms and shoulder muscles. Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper had severe problems duing the filming of Easy Rider. After one particularly long shoot Fonda could not lower his arms for several hours afterward.
Ape-hangers and forward-pegs make for the "Flying-squirrel" riding position, add the wind pressure on your full torso and you have a very tough position to maintain for any period of time not to mention the effect of 120dB straight pipes on hearing
