I just noticed your avatar. How about this one. 1/72 frog kit done as an A-31.

Well the 'N' certainly saw service in the Pacific war, so you could do it as one of those, and still get a'D' or 'M'. If you prefer 1/48th scale, I can thoroughly reccomend the Academy P47 kits - very nice indeed, and a cheaper alternative to the Hasegawa/Tamiya offerings, with a good amount of optional parts, including weighted and unweighted wheels, gunsights etc.

Thanks for the advice, I think I may have space for two, so may go for a 'D' later. Is the Academy P47D a Razorback or newer canopy?

Here is a well worn Ki-46 "Dinah" in surrender markings. I ran into the photo and thought it would be neat to try. I painted and decaled the model in standard JAAF markings. The plane must have been transfered before the war endied as there are remnants of two different markings on the tail. I overlaid two sets of decals on the tail and then did the whole model over in a light coat of white paint. When dry, I wet sanded the aircraft with 800 Grit sand paper to wear away the paint. The kit is a 1/72 Arii remakle of the old LS kit.

Nice work, I've seen a few of these ultra weathered Jap aircraft which isn't always easy to look real, but your 'Dinah' does look very convincing, so well done.

Great job otftch. Ther is the same concept for a Betty bomber flown in to surrender. Almost translucent white with green crosses, original markings nearly visable. I've seen an aerial picture of the plane with escorts. How good would it have been to be one of the escorting pilots! cheers, Bill

My dad served aboard the USS Fanshaw Bay, CVE-70, during WWII. He was on board during the Battle off Samar (bosamar.com).

I always wanted to build a model of his favorite plane, the Grumman TBF. This one I used some photos from a ship's tour book (I have dad's original). He was in failing health a few years ago, so I kind of had to hurry to finish this. I was able to get it to his nursing home about a month before he passed away.

The model is now a bit dusty, and, at the time, I hadn't yet learned how to use Future to improve the look of decals.

Here it is, warts and all.

Good job.Which kit is it ?
Ed

Thanks you.

It is the Accurate Miniatures TBF-1C/TBM-1C "George Bush". I'm not sure if it's the correct sub-tupe for my dad's ship's squadron. I do plan on getting another Avenger, the proper one for the ship, and try to do it correctly.

That looks good, the Avenger is an impressively large aircraft for a single engined type, and your modelling looks absolutely fine.

I like the connection with your dad's service, that's a nice tribute to his memory so you'll need to take good care of it. My grandad was in Italy in '43-'44, and I've collected a set of British infantry figures for display in his memory, to go along with his Italy Star service medal.

If you have a chance to board one of these things you should. I got a flight to an airshow at Moffet field once. There is standing room to the starboard side of the back seat and you can walk up to the pilot. When we returned the plane to it's home base we were asked if we needed anything, "oil" the pilot said. Five gallons brought it up to minimums!!!! cheers, Bill

Here is my latest addition... FAA Corsair Mk.IV from HMS Premier.

Note : HMS Premier was equipped with Corsairs in 1945. By this date, the ship was used in England as a training ground for carrier landings... So no rockets for that Corsair.
