There are so many excellent CG creators in the world!

I am not reaching to the research how much German U-boats influenced Japanese submarines yet but,
in my impression, it would be 80 - 90 percent.

Every Japanese engineers understood German before the war.
Even in 1970s when I was a student of a technical college, I was asked to learn German.

OK, Aaron. Here is a historical record showing how IJN had contacts with the German U-boats.
Story must be back to 1918 when the WW1 was over and Japan was still a member of the allies then.

Translation of the page:

"Former German submarines
Receipt
Based on the cease-fire agreement dated 11th November 1918, an alliance naval meeting was held at the Ministry of Navy of the United Kingdom on 28th November and each nation (of the allies) was to receive the German submarines as the war trophies. It was decided on 9th December that the Imperial Japan was to receive the following 7 boats.
German submarines (7 boats)
U-125, U-46, U-55, UC-90, UC-99, UB-125 and UB-143"

Full copy of the original documents is also attached here in pdf file.
The 7 U-boats were exhibited, tested, researched by the Japanese navy( dozens of local makers joined research) and disintegrated several years later.

That's great information. I knew that some U-Boats has bases in Japanese territory during WWII, but I did not realize they had actually received some after WW1.

They were numbered 1 to 7 (from top to bottom).

I had no idea that the IJN actually owned some U-Boats, and some of those U-Boats in the photos looked fairly modern, too! Thanks for posting the photos and information!

There are much more sleeping records when who visited the 7 U-boats etc in the JACAR library.
U-125 is said a direct sample for IJN I-21.

Reading the manual I-14 page by page, I pick up measurement information to correct my modelling.
For example,

Diameter x Length of each tube:
Inner Main Tube(Hull) 5,800mm x 93,045mm
Control Tower 2,500mm x 6,830mm
Hanger Tube 3,650mm x abt.20,000mm

The center of Control Tower is located 5,050mm above the inner main tube.
The center of Hanger Tube is located abt. 2,900mm above the inner main tube.

Steel plate thickness is between 25 and 28mm
Water Pressure for Testing 2.5 ton per square milimeter.
Ribs are generally located 600mm apart.

Water Pressure for Testing 2.5 ton per square milimeter is wrong.
It must be per square centi-meter.

I can read Japanese but am not so familiar with the old Kanji(Chinese character) letters.
