Question is, what are you going to start on next? There's still plenty of time for another entry, different scale perhaps?
I just dont know Terry... I was going to get to work on the Nashorn Jan sent to me, but with so much time left on the Build, I may attempt to do the 1/48th Bf 109G-14 that Wayne sent to me... I have a load of different decal setups now in 1/48th thanks to NJaco, so the options are wide open....

Only thing to look at with that is whether any of the decals fit the G-14 and the timeframe.....

Im really chompin at the bit to start the Nashorn tho, so we'll see... Maybe start both of them at the same time????

Nah, Im not that retarded.... Or am I???

Heres some test shots I just took outside... The canopy is still not glued down....

Don't say that....! I've done two at the same time here and now that they're getting close to being finished, I'm already looking at another project! Hmmm, that '410 looks interesting!

I agree Wojtek, but was there a mechanism or a way to break the canopy "locks" that prevented the canopy from sliding any further back than the seat back???

Since the pics of Red1 and 13 show them after capture, I was wondering if they were abused or broken, as I cant seem to find any "normal" pics of it being opened so far....

The cockpit mechanizm for openning the conopy was almost the same like for A series. So it means that the cockpit conopy was going forward and back with some slides, two on sides of a cockpit and the central one behind pilot's seat. The main operator ( the crank ) was on the starboard ( see the colour pic).To slide back the cockpit conopy a pilot had to turn it around a couple of times. When the conopy achieved the back position it wasn't possible to turn the crank. So the lenght of slides was the limit to the conopy moving.

Here you are some pics that can help you to catch the idea.

Dan, those pics of '13' looks like the spot that Lucky was trying to do might be the same color (lightly) as the fuselage. Maybe grey instead of green?

and you've also set the bar very high for the rest of us with work like that !

You put it better Karl. Edited my previous post, although my question remains as to how a hand brushed model will be judged against an airbrushed one? The results are quite different, especially in the smaller scales.

Evan

Excellent stuff Wojtek, thanks again...

However, ur diagram for the blown hood shows it going back only to the refill point on the fuselage... As u can see with Barkhorns shot above, with the blown hood, its further back than the diagram shows....

Yes you are right.I can see that.Humm....it is possible that when the new blown haube was introduced, a few Doras on assemblig lines that were going to be equipped with the early hood and had longer slides, got these new ones. Also it is possible that the diagram is wrong. :(

wouldn't worry Evan i'm sure the judges will take painting techniques and scale of models into account, i hope so because i brush paint as you do

Yeah, don't worry about the painting etc, it'll all be taken into acount.
Dan, that's got to be one of the best 1/32nd scale Doras I've ever seen. And it looks real, unlike some good models that look like...good models!
I was going to tell you about the canopy, based on my memory of the technical drawings Wojtek posted, There was another drawing in the set I saw, showing the end stops, the outer canopy lock lugs, which prevented the canopy from slamming forward, and the jettison shear links etc. It seems the maximum rearward travel of the canopy was to a point just to the rear of the flare pistol port, as shown in the Barkhorn and '13' pics, meaning that the front lower edge of the canopy would be level with a point only just in front of the forward edge of the luggage hatch on the cockpit top decking. The position of the canopy shown in the pics of your model looks about right for max rear travel.
I know what you men about getting more than one model on the go; I want to do a '110 for the next part of the GB, and also get on with cleaning, repairing or finishing my other 30 years worth of models. But, I'm reallytempted to start on the big Hunter.....
