"THE GREAT GAZOO"
Bolder Boulder is a 10K held every Memorial Day in the city of Boulder CO in honor of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who served their country. I ran it last year in memory of 3 people who I lost in the past several years who were very near and dear to me, all 3 served their country with honor and distinction.
As I have moved on with some of life's ups and downs, I decided to run in honor of 5 aviators;
David Endicott Putnam US Army (December 10, 1898–September 12, 1918 ) WW1 ace, KIA, possibly had more aerial kills than Eddie Rickenbacker.
Robert Murray Hanson USMC (February 4, 1920-February 3, 1944) WW2 ace, MOH, downed 20 enemy planes in six consecutive flying days, KIA one day short of his 24th birthday.
George Andrew Davis, Jr. USAF (December 1, 1920 – February 10, 1952) Korean War ace, MOH, he was the only flying ace of the United States to be killed in action in Korea, 14 kills.
Kevin Mark Frye US Army (January 11, 1950 - July 28, 1970) Distinguished Civil Air Patrol Cadet (Spaatz Award) KIA while flying an AH-1G tail number 66-15305
Michael Scott Speicher US Navy (July 12, 1957 – January 17, 1991) Shot down over Iraq during the Persian Gulf War. He was the first American combat casualty of the war. His remains were not recovered until August 2, 2009; his fate had not been known until then.
I made the 10K run in 1:00:17, 34 seconds faster than the year prior (not bad for an old fart) I had a great day (felt like running 10K more) and give thanks to these brave men who gave the ultimate sacrifice
