**** DONE: 1/48 Curtiss A-8 Shrike – From WW1 to WW2 GB (1 Viewer)

I finished installing the wheels with my axle modification and below is a series of pics showing it.

First the painted wheel with hole drilled and aluminum tube axle cut to a length so the ends are recessed when installed.
Next the axle partway,
then all the way,
then filled with CA and filed,
then sanded and polished,
then painted,
and finally after a few coats of Future.

That is one spiffy looking finish Glenn. Until I saw your formation, I always thought that the Shrike was a lot bigger.

That picture is deceiving. The zoom was set at a pretty wide angle so the fighters in the for-ground look a lot bigger. Here's a shot from the top that shows the true size. The Shrike was still pretty big considering that it had the same Curtiss V-1570 Conqueror engine as the P-6E in the picture.

It's some hard steel wire from an old Lindberg biplane kit. The cables on the Shrike really seem to stand out in pictures so I thought something a little thicker would look good.
