I would assume for:

The flap area.
Wheel Wells
Future paint chipping.

Superb Wayne!

Correct!

The paint chipping/masking tape method that I wanted to use did not work....however i wanted the wheel wells and flap area in this particular silver anyway....will switch to plan B.

Meanwhile couple of shots of the gloss coated upper surface.....a pain to photograph to show the painting pattern...

Spent quite a few hours putting on the Primary decals today...hopefully pics tomorrow.

Well Plan A was to use the masking tape to pull off the Green in strategic areas, same as my Jill (see below) but I am using a different Silver and the Green paint just wont friggin lift off!!it's stuck fast to the silver...

Normally I use Tamiya Flat Aluminium then Tamiya Green and no problems...BUT this time I'm using Warhammer Citidel Mithril Silver, great Silver paint but it would seem that they don't want to play together!

So plan B will be a Silver Pencil or even Plan C fine brush and Mithril Silver or Tamiya flat Aluminium, this will happen probably between flat coats...

So Wayne really liking the shading up top.Did you just start from the outside of the panel and work in getting lighter?Seems I have seen or heard of this technique before really gives the plane a more paint faded look.Bitch about the chip deal any other time you wanted it to stick that well bet your bottom dollar it would not.Thks Kevin

Thanks Kevin, Yeah, run around the panel lines and then mottle the paint within the panel and build it up lightly and carefully.....bit annoyed the paint wouldn't lift off...

and the shots of the decals on will have to wait one more day...sorry.

Really nice job Wayne, and thanks for the explanation - I'd thought perhaps it might be for paint chipping, but think I missed a page in the thread or something!

Thanks Terry, this current silver was originally only going on the bottom surface, with the other Tamiya Silver on top for the paint chiping, but continued to the upper as well, thought it would work for the chipping...oh well!

Sun didn't come out today, took the pics anyways, bit too dark but you will get the idea......the Red/White arrow marking was a fingers crossed exercise in application....especially for the cowling section due to the curvature involved and the 3 points that needed to be laid down.
Got the centre section positioned first then the top and bottom pieces, having to make strategic cuts to the decal to get it to lay down around the curve as I moved forward....thankfully no mistakes and it worked out!

Then I applied the two fuselage sections and Hinomaru together lining them up to get them straight with a piece of narrow cardboard strip that I cut to length... once all lined up I patted them down carefully checking the alignment as I went along....it took a while to do each side of the fuselage but it worked out in the end thank christ!! as there were no back up decals if I screwed up.
