ZG 1, Italy and the Bf 110G-2?

Oblt. Egon Albrecht was StaKa 6./ZG1 in summer 1943 in Italy, so he must flew Bf110G-2 "S9+AP".

I am not sure with Ltn. Brandes, he flew with Erg.Gr. Ost in 1943 and JG11 in 1944.

Major Ulrich Diesing moved from ZG1 in late 1942.

Thanks Evgeny and Harrison! :thumbright: S9+AP? Gives another option to the markings coming with the kit....

But there is no any photo of this a/c...

We didnt know, if it wear any abschussebalken, camou...

It could be only our speculation.

Right...thanks Evgeny. :thumbright:

How this gentleman then,

Hptm Rudolf Wengner, 5/ZG-1, Bf 110.,

One known victory, a B-24 NE of Regensburg (Bayern) on 22 February, 1944. A 2nd, a P-38 at Grünberg, S of Linz, 2 April, 1944. A 3rd, a B-24 on 12 April, 1944, no location. A 4th, another B-24 NE of Sarajevo on 13 April, 1944. A 5th, a Soviet DB-3 on 19 April, 1944.

The ZG 1 had a few well known names within their ranks. But, as I understand, they flew with ZG 1 on either the eastern or western front and not in the Med/North Africa, correct?

Hptm Egon Albrecht
Maj Helmut Viedebantt
Ltn Rudolf 'Rudi' Dassow
Maj Wolfgang Schenck
ObstLt Joachim Blechschmidt
ObstLt Ulrich Diesing
ObstLt Heinz Nacke

And of course Eduard Tratt....

II./ZG2, 4.43 - 5.43 Trapani, 5.43 - 6.43 Pomigliano, 6.43 - 8.43 Monte Corvino....is this correct?

I don't understand a word, but I think that the top pic are G-2's in Russia,

The second one from Italy.

De zomer van 1943 kwam II./ZG 1 met zijn Bf 110 G-2's Zerstörer boven Italië tot inzet.

Third one, have no idea!

Dassow would make a good subject for your Me 410 project... quite a character.

At the pilots request and with ZG 26's commander Obstlt. Karl Bohm-Tettelbach's permission, his aircraft was equipped with eight MG 151/20 20 mm cannons."

"It was a most beautiful sight to watch him shoot an enemy down with his battery.."

there is some disagreement as to really how many 2cm weapons he had, one GErman figure gives the set up as 6 which was standard including the lower belly waffen pod of two 2cm arms. when he came into Jg 6 like most the ZG pilots did after disbandonment of the twin engine destroyer units the pilots/crews were mg fodder as single engine fighter vs fighter was not there game

Thanks for that Erich. Did any of the ZG pilots make a sucessful transition from Zerstorers to single engine, fighter vs fighter combat?

Another nice avatar too I might add. :D

Hptm Egon Albrecht

Look my post above.

Was StaKa 6./ZG1 from 12 June 1942 to 9 October 1943 , when Hptm. Karl-Heinrich Matern was shot down and killed by Spitfires over Biscay Bay.

Photos:
Left: it is new received G-2's, spring 1943, Ostfront.
Center - II./ZG1's G-2s in Italy, summer 43.
Right - S9+SP, II./ZG1, jan-febr 42, Ostfront.

And of course Eduard Tratt....

Hptm. Eduard "Edu" Tratt (highest Zerstorer ace with 37 victories) never flew in MTO, as he was shot down and injured on Ostfront on 30 jan43.

Paul I am sure there were survivors that went on as some cadre even went into JG 300

II./ZG 1 in 1944 was in Defense of the Reich missions defending the southern portion of the Reich with sister single engine unit JG 27 whom flew quite a bit together in the area as high cover. this was in the area of Wels Austria and actually moved throughout the country facing the US 15th AF heavies and fighters

Paul - just few names:

Rolf Hermichen (SKG210>JG26)

Herbert Kutcha (ZG1>JG3)

Gordon Gollob (ZG76>JG77)

Also, Fritz Stehle became on of the best Jet aces, he had a victories with III./ZG1, II./ZG26, II./JG6 and JG7.

Also, many Zerstorer pilot got good success in Bf110/Me410 vs fighters. Even 1 vs 1, or even 1 vs many.

Erich:

Yes, there is no photo confirming 8 x 20mm of Dassow... But Me410 had enough engine power to fly as Me410B-1/R4/R5 (2 MG151/20E default, 2 MG151/20E in WB151, and 4 MG151/20E in bombbay).
